Travis CONLAN
CONLAN, Travis
STRENGTHS: Point-guard with character and personality. Excellent body structure, he’s versatile on defense, where he can guard any type of opponent. He plays for the team, he’s a tough guy, who fights and sacrifices his body. Present in traffic and on the glass, he goes inside with courage and make big plays. He knows how to run the team. Good passer with peripheral vision. Has the instinct of the point-guards. WEAKNESSES: He does not score many points. Modest offensive player, be that in terms of talent or mentality. He tends to forget to look at the basket, he does not have the talent to create on his own. If he has to take over, he tends to struggle and overdo it. Athletically average, he rarely drives past his defender. Unreliable shooter, especially behind the Pick & Rolls. CAREER: He was part of the second Fab Five of Michigan. He was the one with less talent but the most valuable. It did not all come easy for him in Europe, he started in England, then he was cut by Panionios, Greece. He did some good things with Frankfurt. He had a short stint with Prokom where he was cut. He appeared in Germany before doing two great seasons with Bree, winning the league title. He then played the rest of his career in Belgium. EVALUATION: If you look at the numbers, he seems to be a player with little impact but once you see him play you think different. A tough guy who makes his teammates better and guarantees versatility on defense. He needs creative teammates as he lacks a reliable shot and offensive talent. But he’s a fighter who helps to win.
