Trevor HUFFMAN
HUFFMAN, Trevor
STRENGTHS: A point-guard with character and charisma. He can run a team, he controls the tempo of the game. Solid passing and dribbling skills. Good game reading, especially on Pick & Rolls, where he’s a threat thanks to his three-point shot and his ability to feed the big men. Does a good job of driving and kicking out. He can hit the pull up jumper. Tough guy, not spectacular but effective. WEAKNESSES: Athletically average: He lacks quickness and, above all, change of pace off the dribble. The team has to adapt to his characteristics. He doesn’t like to play a high tempo game. He’s a finisher rather than a creator. He holds onto the ball a lot. Little talent: not a threat with drives, especially in 1-on-1 situations. Average defender. CAREER: He starred in Kent State’s miracle in 2002, he had an exceptional NCAA career but he struggled to reproduce his level of play in Europe. He was moved to the point position after having played as a 2 in college. He’s always played away from the best leagues: in Germany (15.7ppg), Poland (12.1ppg) and Portugal, where he arrived at the end of 2004-05 season (4gm, 13.8ppg). Two good seasons at Aalstar followed before his decline at Oostende. EVALUATION: A good player with evident flaws and a style not easy to fit into a group but he knows how to run a team at a certain level. He puts his mark on the game, he’s solid. He lacks the talent and athleticism to aim higher but he will have a decent career in Europe in minor leagues. An appreciated player despite a style that forces the team to adapt.
