PREWITT, Chad
STRENGTHS: Big and tall frontline player. He has the size to guard a 5. His good fundamentals allow him to face up and be a threat as a 4, his natural position. Solid team player, he knows his limit and does not overdo it. Tough, physical. Intelligent, he knows what he has to do, he can play. He has offensive fundamentals and does the dirty work.
WEAKNESSES: Has very little individual talent. Stiff body, he struggles to bend and get in motion. He’s mobile but he’s in difficulty when moving laterally. Not very agile, he’s not a good leaper, especially from a standstill. He does a lot on the court, but without excelling in any area of the game. As a four, he has slow feet, as a 5 he’s not a great rebounder. He needs to take a certain amount of shots in order to be effective. Not very creative in 1-on-1 situations.
CAREER: Decent player in College, at Arizona State. He made the all-first team in his senior year, averaging 17.3ppg and 7rpg. Invited at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, he did not shine and was not picked by the NBA. He took part in the summer league 2004 with the clippers (4.5ppg). He made his European debut in Cyprus and then came back to the States, where he played two years in the CBA (10.2ppg+5.3rpg and then 9.6ppg+5.4rpg). Found his place in Germany, with the Dragons. Excellent first two seasons before decreasing and crashing out in 2009-10. .
EVALUATION: Decent role player, with little talent but with massive size and fairly good hands. Ideally suited to the German league, where he often faces opponents of his size. He does not have the quickness to defend on modern 4, which is why he would struggle in a more athletic context. He’s appreciated anyway because he plays with intensity and he’s humble. And his three-point shooting is not bad at all.
