Lionel BOSCO
BOSCO, Lionel
STRENGTHS: Short point-guard with strong personality. A true competitor, he guards bigger guys. Fearless, he motivates his teammates. He loves to play a high-tempo game. Good acceleration in the open court and change of pace to drive. Does a good job of driving and kicking out, he can pass the ball. He defends with intensity and aggressiveness. Quick hands, he’s alert on loose balls. WEAKNESSES: He does not score much. The fact that he’s short combined with his lack of leaping ability make things difficult for him when he has to finish off his drives inside. He rarely goes all the way and he does not have the pull up jumper. Inconsistent from three, be that off the dribble or from kick outs. His risky style of play leads him to a few too many mistakes. As a point-guard, he does not create much for his teammates. CAREER: A player who had to gain a lot of experience before emerging thanks to his qualities. He came up with Hutoise, where he played until summer 2005, when he moved to Bruxells. With Hutoise, he started off in the lower divisions, arriving in the BLB after a few promotions. He quickly made his debut for the national team. Had consistent numbers in Leuven. Got back on track at Gent after a season with limited impact at Oostende. EVALUATION: A good player for low-level teams in Belgium. His determination and the energy with which he plays are appreciated. He’s a warrior who goes beyond his limits (physical, technical and athletic) thanks to his heart. If he had a reliable three point shot he could step up a level, especially in terms of offensive impact, which is limited.
